Bridgewatch

When my company was asked to support hashtag#bridgewatch volunteers from the ascension organisation in London I had no idea who they were or what they did.

So, after a few calls it became apparent these volunteers go out in their own time patrolling the City of London bridges, day or night , to help and look after very vulnerable people.

Having been exposed to many suicide incidents over the past 30 yrs police service and losing two good friends to suicide who served , it was a real privilege to help.

Our workshops worked around managing critical situations. We also donated some medical equipment to help support the vulnerable people at risk of hyperthermia this winter.

So far this year , these volunteers have been able to intervene on 53 occasions , preventing people jumping into the River Thames and saving 18 lives this year. Their compassion is beyond reach.

So when you walk on over a bridge and see these incredible people out on “patrol” take a bit of time out to just say hello and thank them. They might just need a chat too!

Have a safe day.
